Global Energy Transition Insights: Storage and Microgrids Accelerate
Chenlong Holding Research Institute released the "2026 Global Energy Transition Trends Report". As the share of renewables keeps rising, power systems face unprecedented demand for flexible balancing resources.
The report projects that global new-type storage capacity may quadruple within five years. In emerging markets with weak grids, smart microgrids will become a key path to electricity access — with huge potential in Southeast Asia, Central Asia and Africa.
The report also cautions that supply-chain security, tariff mechanisms and talent remain the industry's main challenges, calling for closer open collaboration across the value chain.
